democracy is weak here this election
2022-Nov-08, Tuesday 10:44 amDemocracy matters only when you have actual choices... and not just the candidates bought by the plutocracy and presented to you. My ballot this year is notable for more than usual numbers of uncontested races. Almost as bad is when the only two choices are Democrat and Republican. I wonder if this is another small sign of widespread pandemic disability and dropout? I walked from my house to the local library (closed today for voting instead), and I was the only one at my polling station with a mask. Disappointing.
For Governor, I voted for the fringe candidate Hugh McTavish of the Independence-Alliance party. He's actually campaigning for demarchy in Minnesota state government! The earliest mention of mine that I can find on this topic is a post from 2011. He's against the local pandemic response (a BIG strike against him) but for the environment, abortion choice, and gun control. That still leaves him with a slight advantage just for advocating demarchy. Demarchy. How could I NOT vote for him?
As I've said before in governor races here, that's my kind of crazy. I'm still slightly agog. Demarchy! Right there on my ballot! And it was somebody with conservative leanings. What bizarro timeline am I living in now?
- The uncontested races where I did vote for the only name on the ballot: State Senator District 59, State Representative District 59A, County Commissioner District 2, Judge - 4th District Court 7, Judge - 4th District Court 9, Judge - 4th District Court 60.
- The uncontested races where I did not vote for anyone: Associate Justice - Supreme Court 3, and 33 different judges in district courts or courts of appeals. Either I found no information on the candidate, or what I did find left me troubled.
