I spent the night finishing the Mandalorian series on Disney+ instead of doomscrolling politics. Checking local news here this morning, there clearly is no "red wave" happening. It's still not clear who will control the national legislative halves. It's close but as yet undetermined.  I'm still waiting for data on voter turnout.  Minnesota had the best score in the USA for 2020, 2018, and 2016.
  • Ilhan Omar won reelection to the U.S. House Of Representatives with 75% of the vote. That's a trouncing, but some conservative districts elected Republicans with spreads almost that large.  This is what gerrymandering looks like.  We need more competitive district lines drawn.

  • Our incumbent governor won reelection with 52% of the vote. The Republican candidate had 45%, which is a poor performance considering how loudly Republicans in our state legislature have complained during the last 2 years about pandemic response and police accountability (apparently they shouldn't be held accountable, based on their squabbling).

  • That difference of priorities is most obvious in the results for state Attorney General. Incumbent Keith Ellison held 4 police officers accountable for murder during his recent tenure. He won reelection with a 0% lead, which means there will be a publicly funded recount under Minnesota law, if the loser asks for one. It's unlikely to change the outcome, given the 20,857 vote difference between them.

  • The state Auditor similarly won with a 0% lead, so no winner has been declared yet, until challenges are decided.
The Independent-Alliance candidate that I championed yesterday for governor won only 1% of the vote, but mine was one of those 18,171 votes. I guess we're not getting demarchy here any time soon. *sigh*

Now, I guess there's nothing to do but reflexively refresh this Reuters map until winners in the national races determine what happens to the January 6th Committee.  Of course, they decided not to subpoena Trump until the election arrived. You can't convince me that Democrats drag their heels on this (and other issues) without intending exactly these outcomes.  But, sure, in 2024, "You have to vote for [X], otherwise Trump will win!"
