I took a sociology class a few years ago in which we saw a video of the original Stanford prison experiment, a study in how people (ab)use and respond to authority in captive situations. That experiment was led by psychologist Philip Zimbardo who is today offering a kind of followup lecture at the TED conference based on information from Abu Ghraib.

It's worth a few hours of your time to wander the TED website and watch the videos there. I look forward to seeing Dr. Zimbardo's presentation when it's finally uploaded.
