distraction

I really like the idea of intentional communities, but I secretly suspect that the experience there would be a little too intense for my comfort. I'd probably be better off as the loony guy roaming the forest and eating the weeds.  Still, Dancing Rabbit sounds like a nice place. Too bad the longhair guy would be a complete distraction.

*sigh*  I wonder what it is that makes that one feature such an attention-getter for me?  Strange.

Comunidad

Mmmmhh, I have always toyed withthe idea and I even considered it as an option for me back in the late 60's when i learned about a "Communa" near the city where I grew up. It still exists nowdays. The concept of Eco-friendly places didn't exist back then, I don't know if these people has incorporated those ideas nowdays. However, I happen to be too individualistic for a place like that I think, I don't know. I am about to take a flight to the mainland to a symposium on Eco-Tourism. Curiously enough it is in that same city where my parents live so, I will be staying with them for a few days and i might be abl to find out what has happened with the life in that Community you brought to mind with your posting MT. Thank you for that! Warmest hug, Luis.

Most of the hippies who "dropped out" in the 60s and lived in communes ended up becoming the yuppies of the 80s. I wonder what horrible fate awaits this group!

EXACTLY! That is the point. I have seen it happen because many of the hippies' descent happened to be my students at the university. The majority of them beheaved as if the whole cosmos owed them everything ...and they were the ones pursuing a career in the Natural Sciences, I fortunately don't teach at the Administration, Political Sciences and Economy careers! Oh well...!

Could it be the strategic pole placement perhaps?

Love longhair, and it always gets my attention too, however, I lost interest if it is not completed with a beard! :o)

Well, I found out about the famous communa, it is still there and it looks healthy. Here it is, the link to their website: http://loshorcones.org/ It seems it is still being run and promoted by the same original team of professionals I knew about then, mainly psychologists. I gave them a lecture on the fossils in their area about 25 years ago! You may notice they have even a section on the website dedicated to Autism. The lectures of the symposium I was attending are over now and I will be on a two-day fieldtrip starting tomorrow. Big hugs your way, Luis.

Intentional community demands a huge amount of work from everyone involved in it. You can't just sorta *be* you have to actively involve yourself in everything from the most personal needs to the largest governance issues. And they are usually so small and interwoven that you have to leave them for any kind of private time. If you're the kind of person who thrives on the feeling of support and enmeshment, and derives a sense of success from creating consensus and compromise, then they are wonderful ... but if not, uh-oh.
